Brains: A Zombie Memoir

Written by Robin Becker. At times I did find this book to lean strongly towards the young adult side of things but then it would pull back with little nods at older horror films. I have read a fair share of Zombie books and this is the first I have found that comes from the Zombies point of view which I did find quite funny and entertaining.

Brains: A Zombie Memoir is the testament of Jack Barnes, Contemporary American Literature professor-turned-zombie. Professor Barnes is bitten during the outbreak of a virus that creates zombies, and learns upon waking to his unlife that he is not mindless like his fellow undead. Indeed, he has retained the ability to write, though he can not speak.

Jack (The main Zombie) is a little bit different from all the others......he can think, write and care! He decides he needs to track down the Doctor who made the virus and so starts a journey across America where he finds other Zombies with gifts and founds a rag-tag group of the undead.

In a nutshell I really enjoyed the book but at times I did find it dragging.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2 Care Package.

So here it is, a review of my (a little bit later then I had hoped for) Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2 Care Package. Here in the UK its a GAME exclusive and I was lucky enough to land myself one.

At £159.99 it is the most expensive game I have bought but it's worth every penny, the Care Package was alot bigger then I thought it was going to be and feels really sturdy and well built and looks amazing! The colours come from the in game care packs and follows through to the care pack exclusive multiplayer gun camo.

The first thing you see upon opening the pack are 2 boxes which contain a scaled down version of the MQ-27 Dragonfire scorestreak and the remote control.

Uner the boxes are the game itself and the challenge coins. The game comes in a stealbook case with custom artwork, one side is Black Ops 2 while fir the first time ever the other side is for Zombies. The challenge coins are a nice addition, one coin had a Dragonfire and the other has the Black Ops skull logo, each coin has a "II" on one side and also has a unique code which gets you all the DLC.

The DLC includes Nuketown 2025, Nuketown Zobmies a digital download of the soundtrack (Which includes the amazing title song done by Trent Reznor) and some xbox avatar clothing and props.

I can honestly say that I am over the moon this this special edition and hope that the people behind the series carry on the excellent work.

My #PerfectGAME

This is an entry to the Perfect GAME competition for the chance to win a Wii U from GAME

Well seeing as this competition is to win a Wii U I thought my game would be for that console.

In games I have a love for in depth character creation and open world gameplay so thought my game would be a third person science fiction survival horror based in a alternative dystopian future. The player has no idea how the world ended like it has but all they know they need to survive while being haunted by nightmare and the fear of never knowing what is out there. The colours would look really drained as if all the life has just upped and left, everything feels cold.

There is a sparse population and not everyone will treat you as good as you hope so looting would be a big part of the game as you never know what could be of use for building or trading (and even to bribe people to leave you alone).

Food, water and even sleep are important to survive, take one away and things will start to get tricky.

Food: Lack of food would make you weaker so movement would be impaired and defending yourself would be nigh on impossible.

Water: Well to put it short no water would mean death.

Sleep: Don't get enough sleep and not only will concentration go out the window but you will also start to get more paranoid.

The soundscape would be extremely important, you hear some rocks fall....was it the wind? or ws it someone or something stalking you? The music would be a mix of orchestral and digital music, string sections with the hard hitting sound of keyboards and electronic drums to bring home the feeling of being alone. Imagine a mix of The Book of Eli meets Blade Runner and you will be spot on.

The game would make the most from the new Wii U GamePad functions.
Touchscreen: This would be used for building things to help you in the world, picking locks and even looting.

Microphone: This would be used for sneaking moments, any noise made by you and anythhing around you could raise the alarm.

Was it aliens? A virus? Governments collapsing? War? Or is it just the world getting its own back?

Black Ops 2 Midnight Launch Grimsby

So here it is "The big one" Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2 is finally here and again GAME have given me the opportunity to take part in the midnight launch.

I got there a good half hour before the doors opened and you could feel the excitement from the large crowd, I even had the chance to ask the excited gamers (Who ranged from hardcore gamers through to parents and even girlfriend/boyfriends) about which part of the game are they looking forward to........well its fair to say that the online multiplayer won hands down.

23:45 and the doors open, some of the fans made a mad dash towards GAME just to be the first in and the first out (Got to get home and play it ASAP). Again I get to talk to the customers about the game and which version they are getting (Standard, Hardened or Care Package).

A massive thankyou to Martin and the guys from GAME Grimsby for allowing me to take part in one of the largest game launches of the year.

P.S A review of the Care Package Edition will be coming up

The Crow

Rating 8/10
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
"People once believed, that when someone dies, a crow carries their soul to the land of the dead. But sometimes, something so bad happens, that a terrible sadness is carried with it and the soul can't rest. Then sometimes, just sometimes the crow could bring that soul back to put the wrong things right."

The Crow is a 1994 Action/Thriller based on the comic written by James O'Barr and directed by Alex Proyas and stars Brandon Lee, Michael Wincott and Ernie Hudson.

The director of this movie, Alex Proyas, has a very inventive visual style which is very dark and gothic. He uses this style to full effect in order to get the best out of this film. The plot comes from a similarly dark graphic novel written by James O'Barr, and follows the adventures of a man who along with his fiancée was killed by a gang of thugs and resurrected by a crow to get his revenge.

There will always a bit of mystery about this film as Brandon Lee died while making it. Was it the Chinese Mafia? Was it the Triads? Was it the "Lee Curse"?

"If the people we love are taken from us, the way they live on is to never stop loving them. Buildings burn, people die, but real love is forever."

Halo 4 Midnight Launch Grimsby

I was lucky enough to have the chance to tag along for the launch of Halo 4 at GAME Grimsby to review for The Digital Bites.
Although I am not a Halo fan I was excited by the buzz in the air of those who are. I got there for 23:30 and was questioned by the police about why there was a large group of people waiting outside the shopping centre. ( I guess they are not Halo players ).
After finally getting in the store the excited fans had to wait no longer ( Well maybe a few minutes for the tills to turn midnight ) to buy the game they have been waiting for as well as a few extra purchases.
Over all a great night to be part of and have a chance to attend. I would like to thank Martin and the team for letting me be involved.
